Town House

Also known as Pachelbel's or Juncker House, the frontal building in the lower part of the square currently houses the Cheb Museum. With its overall layout, Gothic portal and Renaissance driveway, it is one of the best-preserved burgher houses in Cheb. The oldest mentions of the house date back to the 14th century. The coat arms of the Holldorf and Graff families belong to only two of its numerous owners. The year 1600 above the entrance portal designates the date of the Renaissance reconstruction. On 24 February 1634, the house entered the town’s history as the place of the murder of Albrecht von Wallenstein. The house has been in the continuous possession of the town since 1737. It served as the residence of the town commander and as the seat of the town authorities. In 1873, the town museum was initially founded in two rooms and over the next century, its collection gradually filled the neighbouring house as well.

Today, it houses the expositions of the regional museum, which illustrate the life and the death of the famed commander, Albrecht von Wallenstein, through a collection of pictures and contemporary items. The displays also include valuable historical artefacts and exhibits depicting the history of the town and the region.
