Georg Hackl’s House
Year of construction: 1872
Number of views: 4690
Builder Adam Haberzettl developed the project of a block of flats in today’s Svobody Street for MUDr. Georg Hackl, a municipal dentist, in 1871. The house (the final inspection of which only came after the death of the builder) is one of the illustrations of his late work. The front still carries his characteristic style using the obligatory element of dentils, connected curved cornices above the ground floor windows or grand order, nevertheless a transition from the Romanticising approach to a more moderate one of Historicism is obvious here. Dr. Hackl was not able to enjoy the new building for long, since Georg Brusch is listed as the house owner already in 1876, and in1877 Georg and Margaretha Schnurrer. Otolaryngologist, MUDr. Willibald Wöhl had his residence in the house for a long time as well. A shoe shop was located on the ground floor (around 1908 Moritz Blatt, around 1925 the Humanic shoe shop) and clockmaker Karl Wilfart ran his gold and silver jewellery shop here in the 1920s. A manufacture of ready-to-cook meals and sales-shop of the company “Hotely a restaurace Cheb” resided in the house and the adjacent yard building. A jewellery shop of the company “Klenoty” was established on the ground floor later.
